QKD Royal Monday!

If you didn't arrive here from Alex, you can start at the QKD blog to see everyone's project.
This weeks challenge was a color challenge, mainly to use blues & silvers/grey. I actually took these colors out of the inspiratin challenge a few weeks ago and made this tag:

I used my favorite Christmas set, Fancy Christmas! I decided for this challenge to show my Xmas tag today & tomarrow on the QKD blog I will show a coordinating project which also goes with this challenge.

Now hop on over to Helene and see what she's sharing today!

QKD New Release Week!!!

You should have arrived here from Vicki's blog, if not head back to the QKD blog to start the hop and not miss a thing! This week is New Release week at QKD! The stamps featured today will be available this Wednesday!
I can't believe this is the last new release of the year!!! Wow, this year went fast! With Christmas coming fast as well, I decided to use the new Mrs. Dashwood stamp to make a gift set for my Mom for a Christmas gift. My Mom loves cats so I knew she would love this stamp!

I will share parts of the set over the month until Christmas, for today I'm showing my magnetic fridge notepad.

Really, this is a very simple & inexpensive project. You just need a notepad, papers & some ribbon. You can either cut a piece from a magnetic sheet to glue to the back or use strips of magnets.

QKD Royal Monday!

If you didn't arrive here from Vicki's blog, head on back to the QKD blog to start from the beginning so you don't miss a thing!
The inspiration photo for this weeks challenge reminded me of the soft creams & blues of winter & snow. Mabey it's because of Black Friday coming in 4 days (yippee!) or Thanksgiving Thursday, but I'm getting in the Christmas spirit this week! We have only had one snow this year so far which didn't last the day (very odd for MN) but I can still feel the excitement and wonder of Christmas. We even saw Santa for the first time of the season on Saturday.

So in honor of black friday coming, I'm gonna need tags for all those gifts, so I used a light blue cardstock for my tag, just rounding the top corners, edging the bottom with a scalloped border punch & punching a hole for some twine. I stamped that beautiful tree from Fancy Christmas in cream, than dipped in glitter before the ink dried. I added that fun ruffled ribbon & crocheted flower along the bottom. Now hop on over to see what Helene has done with today's challenge!

Happy Birthday QKD Special New Release!!!

If you didn't come here from Jules, head back to the QKD blog and start from the beginning- there's lots of great stuff to see!
Today is QKD's 3rd birthday!!!! In honor of the big bday celebration, there is a special new release happening today! You can purchase these fabulous new stamps by Kelly Kost today at the QKD store!
For today's special release, I got to play with the Wizard of Oz set, which includes the main image and one sentiment. I loved this stamp in particular when I saw all the fabulous stuff from Kelly! There is so much inspiration in that movie I didn't know where to start! It's also a favorite of my daughter and many little girls so this would be a great set to use on a special gift for a little girl or for birthday cards.

The first thing I wanted to do with this was make a card using the yellow brick road, of course! :) I decided that the easiest way to do that was to just take a piece of yellow cardstock and hand draw brown lines for the bricks using a ruler. After finishing my "yellow brick" paper, I free hand cut it with a craft knife. I colored the image with copics, added some glitter to Dorothy's red shoes :) and mounted on red paper. I popped the main image up on pop dots to add to the effect of the yellow brick road in the background.

Now, onto Sara!

QKD Royal Monday!

If you didn't arrive here from Vicki's blog, head on back to the QKD blog to start from the beginning!

Today's challenge was a color challenge, the QKD colors ( whoop, whoop!!!). Pink, Purple, Grey & White. Make sure to check out the QKD blog to see how you can participate in this challenge & win a cute stamp set!
The only white I actually ended up using was the paper that I used to stamp & color the oriental girl on, so the white doesn't show, but it's there! :)
I decided to keep it a simple base and showcase the adorable girl by cutting her out and popping her up on pop dots. The "dream" is from the Prosperity Crane set.

I love how she pops out above the little strips of paper. It has a very peaceful feeling, I think. :)

You can see the Oriental Girl and Prosperity Crane sets through the links above or just head over to the store to check out everything!

Use coupon code BL10 in the store at check out and receive an additional 10% off your purchase!! this includes kits, clearance, stamps, and well.. EVERYTHING in the store!! (If you're purchasing a kit subscription, the discount applies to the first month only.)

QKD Royal Monday!

If you didn't arrive here from Vicki's blog, head on back to the QKD blog to start from the beginning!

Today's QKD Royal Monday challenge was a sketch challenge. I changed it up by changing the card direction, using snowflake die-cuts as my main image, using a tag die-cut with my sentiment rather than the bottom small square and putting pearls on either side of my tag rather than either side of my ribbon. Lots of changes, but still the same basic layout! It just shows that the same sketch can inspire different ideas in different people, which is why I love sketch challenges so much!

I used the Fancy Christmas set for the Merry Christmas sentiment. You can head on over to the QKD store for that fab set and more!
We are extending the free stamp week for this week where you buy 2 stamp sets and get 1 separate stamp free or buy 3 separate stamps get 1 free!

Another Family Post! :)

Hello! Hope everyone's having a great weekend! We had conferences in our school district this Thurs-Fri, so no school from Thur-Sun. Matt & Logan left for deer hunting early Thursday morning, so it's just been me, Shelby & Lucas. Honestly, I'm starting to get exhausted :) Shelby is the least patient of all of us so Lucas can easily get on her nerves. But, we are having some fun moments while the old boys are gone! :)
Anyhow- Matt got a deer this morning! Yay! A pretty nice buck, too. They have 4 tags to fill, so they'll probably still be gone at least a few days. Logan shot & missed one today as well. Mabey tomarrow!

On a creative note :) Check back on Monday for the QKD Royal Monday bloghop!

Happy Halloween 2009!!!

Just wanted to share today some pics from Halloween! My youngest, Lucas, was a fuzzy lion (perfect for Oct in MN!). It's probably the last year i'll be able to pick his costume out with him so that it's warm! Next year I'm sure he'll want some thin costume that he'll freeze in!
My daughter, Shelby, was a 50's waitress. She saw this costume in a catalog months ago and had to have it! My oldest, Logan and his friends all dressed as "punk zombie skateboarders". :)
Even though my husband stayed at home sick, we all had a fun night and could hear screams and chainsaws all evening from the Tunnel of Terror across the street!

Shelby, Lucas, Logan

My kids and 4 of their cousins at G'ma & G'pas. Lucas, Logan, Sierra, Elijah, Jordan, Lucy, Shelby.

Lucas is such a little ham!
Hope everyone had a fun & safe Halloween! Now onto Christmas! :)

QKD New Release Week!!!

It's time for new release week at Queen Kat Designs! The official release will be Wednesday, November 4th, but the Monday blog hop girls get to preview some of these new releases to you today!
If you didn't arrive here from Vicki's blog, head on back to the QKD blog to start from the beginning!

This month, I get to show you this adorable Oriental Girl stamp. It's such a fun stamp to color in the whole scene you can just do so many different things. For today's card, I colored the image with copics, cut and mounted. I found a great cut on the Slice Vintage Findings card of a flower on a swirly vine that looks similar to the flower vines in the bottom part of the stamp. I cut 3 out of black CS and glued onto blue CS, which I mounted on my black card front.
Now hop on over to see what Helene has to show today!

Remember- all these great new releases will be available at the QKD Store this Wednesday!
Special at the store: Buy 2 stamp sets get 1 separates stamp free ($3.99 or less) or buy 3 separates get 1 free.
We are also going to have a special Birthday/Special Release blog hop on November 19th!

PTI Blog Hop!

Time for the PTI holiday blog hop! I wanted to share tonight my favorite PTI holiday card that I've done so far this year. It's also the simplest, but gorgeous in it's simplicity (I think!) :)

The poinsettias are simply stamped in 3 different pti colors and than gold sticky back gems are added to the middles in a cluster. I added a strip of paper along the bottom using a scalloped border punch.
Thanks for stopping!

QKD Welcomes New Designer Melia!

Welcome to a Tuesday special release QKD blog hop! There is a new stamp designer in the house- Melia Newman! Fabulous! I'm thrilled to be part of this special release featuring her Thanksgiving Dragons!
You should have arrived here from Lara. If not, you can start back at the QKD blog so you don't miss anyone's creations! I decided to do an easel card because it was the technique challenge last week on Splitcoast and I didn't get a chance to play along then.
I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder for the base layer of the card front to resemble the scales of the dragons. The image was colored with copics, the dragons dotted with the blender to make them look like they have scales. Are they cute or what!? For the base of the easel I die cut a pumpkin and used some twine thread to sew a button on.

Now here's some info straight from Queen Kat!
The two stamps that we are releasing today are on sale for 30% off as well as the two alphabet stamps that Queen Kat used on the card for the QKD blog today. This sale will last through Sunday. Please come over and join our yahoo group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/qkdstampco/ This is our new newsletter group. If you'd like to get the awesome sale info first, come and join our group!

This weeks challenge was this sketch:

And here is my card (changed the sketch a little):

Isn't that bear adorable with it's little scarf!? I used the same velvet ribbon that's on the top as a scarf by cutting a piece in half to make it skinnier.

On the inside of the card I printed a sentiment with my computer "Wishing you a beary Merry Christmas".

PTI World Card Making Day Challenges!

In celebration of WCMD, Nicole Heady over at PTI put forth 4 challenges. Each one was to make a card inspired by a different part of the world! I decided to keep with Nicole's theme from the September PTI release and do some simple, one-layer Christmas cards. Here's what I came up with:

Japan
Classic Japan black & red. I used a fuzzy brad & 2 glittered brads.

Mexico

I saw a lot of orange in the inspiration photos as well as the circle of the sombrero and the gorgeous floral embrodery (similar to this stocking).

India

The challenge for India was to use some bling (lots of jewels & gold in India inspiration). There are also a lot of gorgeous colors used together in India, so I choose to stamp in 3 different colors and than use simple gold dots in the center of each.

Australia

The challenge for Australia was both to use masking & white dot outlines. I masked the large poinsettia to stamp the dotted frame in white and than used a white pen to dot around the flower & leaves.

I hope everyone had a fabulous WCMD! Thanks for stoppin by! Lots of fun in store this week, so check on back!

Unity Friends With Flair Friday!!!

I've missed the cut off for a couple weeks for Friends with Flair Friday & finally made it for today! :) I did this layout that I just LOVE using a sketch from 52 sketches...52 weeks. I love the sketch and I love all the fall colors, the fun new Unity set of pumpkins with that great leafy swirl & the ribbons & rhinestones!

Here's the sketch I used:

And this is the fab Unity set I used, Simple Blessings:

I also used a Quickutz embossing folder to emboss the long strip on the right side of LO. I just punched the circles with 2 different size circle punches. I used the "Simple Blessings" stamp in place of the journaling along the left of photo and circled 2 sized rhinestones around the first circle.Sorry I couldn't get a great photo, but it hasn't stopped raining here in 2 days!

Thanks for stopping!

QKD Royal Wednesday Blog Hop!

OK, back to schedule! :) Sorry about the issues this morning, I was gone working at Scrapfest at the MOA all weekend and didn't have time to upload project pics until yesterday afternoon when I realized my card reader wasn't reading! :)
Well, I've got it going finally so I can share my project for this weeks QKD challenge! I was struck mostly by the very neutral palette of colors with one pop of a brighter color. I decided to flip it to be a darker color with only neutrals on it. I was also inspired by the rows of pillows and repeated the happiness symbol stamp 3 times along the bottom.
Twine wrapped & tied around the top finishes it off. A very simple, clean one layer card.
Here's your next stop on the hop: Kelly Jean!!!

QKD Royal Wednesday Blog Hop!

If you didn't arrive here from Maria, you can head over to the QKD blog to make sure you don't miss a thing!
Time for a color challenge! This weeks challenge was to use Olive, Yellow Bronze, Brown & Cranberry. Ok, you can't see the olive on my card because it's on the patterned paper and the olive part is covered up by the main image panel! But, you get the idea!
I used the Holiday Sweater Stamp Set and changed it up into a Fall sweater. I paper pieced the sweater and than colored some of the stripes with copics to match the patterned paper. I used Jenni Bowlin tiny letter stickers for the phrase "Cozy up" which I use with my kids a lot during movie nights! :)

Now head on over to Kelly Jean for your next hop stop!

Birds With Style

I just love penguins! I wanted to use the penguin from the new QKD Birds With Style set for my QKD post today so I decided to use it with this weeks Friday Sketchers sketch. I stamped 2 penguins with the Let's Fly Together sentiment, which is sweet- or course, but also makes me laugh because penguins can't actually fly! :)

Everyday Life

Just wanted to share the first scrapbook page I've completed in over a month! I know! I just love all the fun sketches and inspiration at 52 weeks, 52 sketches and finally got one done and uploaded before the week was up! This is a great sketch and I will be using it again. For my page
I decided to pull out my new Unity scrapbooking kit of the month- their 1st one!

The stamp of the journaling strips was just perfect for this sketch and I used the tab stamp on top and bottom instead of brads.

Rather than a title, I added the beaver cut out (also from Unity) in the middle. A perfect fit for a photo of the kids with a giant beaver if I do say so myself! :)

The journaling reads "Everyday life...of summer. One of our many summer day trips to the MOA to Underwater Adventures. Today, this is life...everyday. Someday I will miss this everyday life. Summer 2009"

I can't believe the summer's over and the kids are back in school, even though I'm glad for their & my sanity! :) They get very stir crazy by September. I can't believe this is the last year I will have one of my babies home with me for at least most of the day. Next year they will all be in school FT during the day. I can't believe my oldest is in Jr.High already.

Everyday life...it moves fast- enjoy it!

TEBB Challenge #12 Buttons!

I love using buttons on my cards. Usually, I stitch them right onto the card or image panel. For this card, I decided to use buttons that coordinate with the patterned paper as the leaves on the tree branch holding the owl.

I know a round button isn't very realistic as a leaf! but, the owl is also very round, so I think it fits right in :) Stamps by Unity Stamp Co, Patterned paper & ribbon from Cosmo Cricket Boyfriend line. Image colored with Copics. Bazzill polka dot embossed paper. 5x5 card base,

7 down, 6 to go! :)

Hugs- Kelly

TEBB Challenge #2

Challenge #2 is a sketch challenge. I wanted to use this cute new Archiver's exclusive stamp set with a little elf & cute sentiment.

On the inside is the other sentiment in the set "and a cozy new year". I used the new Cosmo Cricket holiday line patterned paper. The white brads are flocked and I used white flock on the elf's collar, cuffs and jacket trim as well. The bell & belt are colored grey & than have some sparkle added with a glitter pen to look like silver. The main elf image was colored with copics.

I'm still working on the rest of the challenges, so please stop back! :)

Hugs- Kelly

TEBB Challenge #7

Challenge #7 was paper tole. Basically layering your stamped image by popping up different sections in layers.
I wanted to use this super fun new set from Our Crafts Lounge with the Turkey driving the car!

I used a natural paper with a little speckle to it for the background of the stamped images. I first stamped the car, turkey, leaf "breeze" & Gooble Gooble on to the paper and colored with copics. I than stamped the car image 2 more times. I colored one & cut out complete car and popped up on top of original car. I than colored just the tire covers of the 3rd card, cut out and popped those up on top of the 2nd car.

In real life, it really looks great with this image because it adds to the effect of the turkey actually sitting in the car!

Hugs- Kelly

TEBB Challenge #8

Challenge #8 is a color challenge to use red, blue & yellow. I decided to use this great Cosmo Cricket holiday paper as well as that fabulous blingy Karen Foster brad!

Holiday Sweater stamp set from Queen Kat Designs for main sweater image & yellow background. Colored with Copics & popped up on pop dots.

Hugs- Kelly

TEBB Challenge #9

Challenge #9 is an inspiration challenge. I took the pastel colors from the inspiration photos to use as inspiration for my card.I took the colors from this beautiful Earth Love paper from Cosmo Cricket. The stamp is from Unity Stamp Co. Pearl swirl from Basic Grey. I colored the image with copics and cut & mounted with the Spellbinder's die.

Hugs- Kelly

TEBB Challenge #13

Challenge #13 to use stitching on your card. Since I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with my sewing machine right now :) I decided to use some hand sewing on this card!

I stitched some X's in orange & black in the top left corner of my image panel to go with the Halloween theme. The stamps are from Unity Stamp Co. Paper from the new Basic Grey Halloween line (their first one ever!) I used a glitter pen on the candy corn & pumpkins in the tree as well.
